At this year’s African Movie Academy Awards, Congolese film Viva Riva! took home six trophies, all of which were made of chocolate. The movie, directed by up and coming film-maker Djo Tunda Wa Munga, is a thriller about sex, drugs, and crime in contemporary Kinshasa. The same director, Tunda Wa Munga is working on a new Chinese cop thriller set in the DRC, rumored to be called Kung Pao Kinshasa. So keep your ears to the ground to follow the emerging ‘rebel-leaders-are-not-the-only-people-in-the-DRC’ film industry coming out of Kinshasa.
