Rwanda Bans Greeting Cards & Happiness

Pardon the momentary hiatus on this blog: Mo’dernity Mo’problems is now back, however, without new years greeting cards. This, of course, is in solidarity with the Government of Rwanda, who recently banned all inter-Ministry greeting cards in the face of the global economic recession. According to the Daily Nation:

Even the media that depend on revenue from the big government advertisers have not been spared by the radical thrift rule — congratulatory messages conveyed through the media have also been banned.

The finance ministry has also limited greeting cards to the same offices and district mayors, governors, ministers and state ministers as well as heads of autonomous and semi autonomous public institutions.

In 2010, Mo’dernity Mo’problems will no longer support greetings cards and is also launching a campaign against budgetary abuse on Nido creamer, which has long been the cause of financial irresponsibility and horrible coffee in many African countries. That said, this blog is in support of Rwanda’s long-term poverty reduction plan which ensures the adoption of someecards.com as its official greeting system.
